My work focuses on the politics of sexual violence—specifically, the political factors that shape understandings of sexual consent.

Book Project

In my book project, I ask why sexual education efforts at the university level have ostensibly failed to prevent sexual violence on their campuses. I concentrate on universities as they play a pivotal role in public discourse, shape future generations, and, crucially, are entangled in politics given Title IX.

Sexuality and Consent

In “LGB+ Views of Consent,” in the volume LGBTQ+ Public Opinion: The United States in Global Context (Forthcoming at the University of Michigan Press), I offer the first study of how understandings of consent vary between heterosexual and LGB+ individuals. I argue that sexual minorities face unique challenges due to diverging perspectives on consent that go unaddressed when policy is designed.

Public Writing

My reflections on the impact of gender in graduate school has been published in the American Political Science Association’s handbook, Strategies for Navigating Graduate School and Beyond, available here.
